The Great Wall of Books has been saved.

Due to the generosity of melbourne's arts community, well got very close to reaching the figure needed to secure the Book and the company director from having to declare bankrupt. well will contribute the difference - which is now such a miniscule amount we are almost crying from the understanding and respect given to this free contemporary public art work.

THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU

To the artists, arts workers, venue operators, family members and friends who contributed whole heartedly to the event.

This truly was an occasion where the spirit of the people working, living and loving the arts came together for a common cause - namely to support ongoing experimentation and confluence between people, place and ideas.

Watch this space over the next week and see documentation of the night's activities, including photgraphs and texts from artists and punters.

AMAZING!

A WORD FROM OUR DARWIN CORRESPONDENT - HAMLET (A.K.A ALEX BEN MAYOR)

"The impossible is made more unlikely by the WELL.
On the night of spawning, soon after sundown, flower-like polyps which make
up the colony begin to expand. Soon, bright orange or red beings are brought
up and glued to the individual information bundles, until the individuals
are completely surrounded. This is a nice trick, as these clusters float to
the surface due to the high conceptual content of the information. In this
way, bundles from different colonies have a chance to intermingle at the
surface, and if the combination is right, fertilization will take place.
Once fertilized, the clusters begin to grow, morph and expand, threading
their way upon currents to a multitude of spaces. Some of these (myself
included) have ended up at the top of this country called Australia, others
have floated and taken up residence across the globe. Without a simultaneity
of perfect conditions spawning cannot occur. These conditions are provided
by the WELL.Viva. Viva. Viva. Let the spawning of the WELL begin."
